1948: George Najour, 27, moves from his job as a recreation director at state-owned Jekyl Island. Now in Atlanta, he helps run a business in East Point called George's Glass Bar. 1959~1960: East Point bans beer sales. 1961: 1041 North Highland Ave. becomes George's Delicatessen. It started as a deli in the front half of the store, and became a bar that sells beer and sandwiches in the back. 1961-1982: as quoted from an article from a bar calendar in October of 1980: "George floats between the two in the uninterrupted space behind the counters and the bar, now selling a sack of imported groceries, now drawing a beer. Najour says the bar and the deli each account for about half of his business, so they deserve an equal share of his time." "But it is the bar that attracts a crowd of neighborhood regulars, sport fans, newspaper types, and the occasional politician looking for votes, advice, or attention. There's nothing special about it, except that it's pinball machines are fast, the conversation is usually interesting, and the balcony offers an out of the way spot for a tete-a-tete if one doesn't mind bumping into the bumper pool players." " At one end of the bar are Najour's baseball trophies, accumulated beginning with his Army service during World War II. When he was discharged in 1946, at 26 years old, Najour was drafted by the Dodgers. He played third base and second base. Even so, he was having a good year with the class D Newnan Browns of the Georgia-Alabama league until he broke his ankle. Later, as an amateur, he played on four city championship teams in nine years. Sports, as shown on the large television at the end of the bar and discussed on the barstools and in the booths, plays its usual part in making George's what Najour calls, "just a family bar, where most people feel they can come and not be bothered by bums and pests." "Occasionally, arguments over remembered scores or perceived greatness verge on violence: the same is true of political discussions. When that happens, which is seldom, decorum is maintained by George, is wife Mary, or Sammy, who recently retired at 62 but still works part time. Sammy's retirement in January of 1978 occasioned the largest crowd in George's memory. The band stopped playing long enough for a city councilman to read a proclamation from the mayor. Nobody else stopped at all. Sammy was so impressed by it all that he was back at work the next day. 1983: With help from son, G.G. Najour, George's installs a kitchen in the rear of the building, creating a limited menu that did indeed include the George's burger, as well as some appetizers, salads, and other items. Thus began a new era, and creating a need to use the name, "George's Bar & Restaurant" on the front window. On May 11, 2006, George's was honored to raise money for the Vince & Barbara Dooley Scholarship Fund for Deserving Children. It is a human right to use plant medicine and everyone in the world should have easy access to cannabis-based medicine. Our goal is to make CBD common-place in all homes in the world by 2030: it will have a place in the house just like salt and garlic. 10 years ago while studying genetics at the Danish University, I traveled across Africa working on a project to increase the lifespan of people in Zulu region as they were suffering from AIDS. I spent time in mobile clinics to implement mainstream medicine. Here I saw how the drugs we were providing people with were only making things worse. This took me on my journey. A journey that raised questions about everything we learn in university, and which led me to start looking for alternatives that could restore our immune systems and health without side effects. In my search, I found that correct nutrition was the answer, that an intense natural vitamin and mineral regime could help people to lead normal lives. I found the Cannabis plant to be very effective from looking into native medicine. At the same time, over in the USA, people were marching on the streets for the legalization of cannabis. People were advocating that the use of cannabis plants had helped them to overcome AIDS and other serious problems.I started to research and experiment by growing different hemp plants, they contained little-to-no THC so I could grow them without a license as, in Europe, hemp without THC had been legal to grow since 1997. My starting point was the cannabinoid CBD. In my research and days in the university archives, I had found studies on epilepsy patients who had trialed CBD, and this had been displaying promising results since 1982. I was able to breed a variety of hemp that contained enough CBD and at the same time containing all the other macromolecules that were present in the original hemp plant. I decided to help change the world’s perspective on cannabis by making non-psychoactive cannabinoids available online and disrupt the debate. Why does my pet shake when going to the groomer and the vet? A: Pets get excited when going to the vet or groomer. Some pets exhibit anxiety because they simply don't like being groomed. Some pets love it so much they are ready to jump on the table and get started! Whatever the reason, it is important not to add to the excited state of the pet with baby talk or sad goodbyes. Showing affection to fear creates more fear and stress. The best thing you can do is ignore the anxious behavior, hand over the leash and leave. (Animals pick up on your stress!) Most pets will be tails wagging as soon as you leave! After all.....It is their SPA DAY! Q: I brush my pet, why is he matted? A: Matting can be caused by a number of reasons. Improper brushing: There is a right and wrong way to brush certain coats. There are also different types of brushes and combs that should be used on different types of coats. We will be happy to show you the right tool and method for keeping your baby looking flawless. Shedding: "Non shedding" breeds such as poodles do shed, However, the dead hair gets tangled with the new coat. If not brushed regularly the coat will form matts. Bathing: If you bathe your pet at home and the coat is not completely brushed out BEFORE & AFTER the bath mats will form and tighten! Q: Will my dog have to be shaved? A: We will only insist on shaving your pet when dematting becomes painful to your pet. (Humanity before Vanity!) Q: My pet is scratching! Do we have fleas? A: Your pet could be scratching for many reasons; fleas could be one, dry skin or allergies. We will inspect your pets coat and skin, If we do not see fleas we would recommend a soothing and moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. If we see fleas the proper shampoo and Neem will be used. Neem is an all natural dip that is a flea repellent and skin soother. It should not be used in place of Advantix or Frontline. Q: Can I apply Frontlline or Advantix after my pet gets groomed? A: Not the same day! You should always wait two days before or two days after a bath. Your pet needs to have the proper oils built up for the preventative to be effective. Q: Do you groom cats? A: Absolutely! We groom both short and long hair cats. A good comb out helps with shedding and matting. If your cat has trouble cleaning or grooming themselves we may want to give a full cut. We will be happy to discuss what will work best for you and your cat. Q: I have a new puppy, when should we start grooming? A: As soon as the proper shots have been administered. It is a great idea to get your new baby comfortable with the grooming process. The best tip we can give new parents is, play with your puppies feet!
